Imran is making baseless allegations to divert attention from May 9 event, PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that Imran Khan Niazi can go to any extent to defame the law enforcement agencies and divert attention from his culpability in the tragic events of May 09.

“Make no mistake about the evil intent behind Imran Niazi’s latest ploy to defame our law enforcement agencies and the police. Once again, he will distract from his culpability in the tragic events of May 9. “Making misleading and baseless allegations of rights violations,” the prime minister said on Twitter, adding that he was not surprised by Imran’s actions.

Shahbaz Sharif said that a person who constantly uses abusive language against state institutions, incites people to violence, attacks state symbols and military installations and destroys the memorials of martyrs, is capable of going to any extent. The prime minister said that Imran Niazi presided over a disinformation apparatus that systematically planted fake news to fool people. “Everything about it is hate, division and lies,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister on Thursday directed the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to completely stop the illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products.

Talking to the delegation of Pakistan Tobacco Company here, the Prime Minister said that measures should be taken on an emergency basis against the illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products. He also ordered to install track and trace system in all cigarette factories of the country by July 15. He said that cigarette smuggling should be stopped, no one will be allowed to harm the national treasury. He said that strict action should be taken against those involved in the sale of smuggled cigarettes and tobacco or those products on which taxes have been evaded.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Advisor to Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, Chairman FBR and senior officials attended the meeting. Furthermore, the Prime Minister said on Thursday that Pakistan considers Japan as an important partner for its development and prosperity and Japanese companies should take advantage of the immense investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Toyota’s plan to manufacture hybrid vehicles in Pakistan. The Japanese ambassador said that well-known Japanese companies are willing to invest more in Pakistan. During the briefing, the Prime Minister was told that Toyota Indus Motors will start exporting spare parts of vehicles from July this year and these exports will make Pakistan a part of the global supply chain.

The Prime Minister said that exports of spare parts should be increased by taking advantage of the potential of the engineering sector in the country. He said that it should be ensured that the spare parts of the vehicles sold in Pakistan are produced locally. The participants of the meeting appreciated the business-friendly policies of the Prime Minister’s government.

On the other hand, the Foreign Office said on Thursday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on June 3. Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in the weekly press briefing that the Prime Minister’s visit will reaffirm the deep brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey.

The spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that the Prime Minister will convey congratulations to President Erdogan on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan. He said that the Prime Minister will also invite President Erdogan to attend the seventh meeting of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) in Islamabad. Visits to Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Belgium from June 5 to 13. “The MoS will hold ministerial-level meetings to discuss political engagement and cooperation in development, trade and climate change,” he said.
