ISLAMABAD: Two senior-most judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan – Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial and senior-most judge Qazi Faiz Isa participated in a sapling ceremony at the court premises on Friday to show solidarity.
The Chief Justice and Justice Isa reportedly also had a pleasant conversation during the plantation process. Apart from both, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minullah were also present in the court. The judges prayed together after planting flowers.
Chief Justice Bandial prayed, “May God bless everyone and [especially] our institution”. Earlier, the Chief Justice had expressed regret that attempts are being made to divide the judiciary from outside. However, little was done to counter the climate of distrust among Supreme Court judges. Later on Friday evening, Senior Judge Justice Qazi Faiz Isa dismissed rumors of a split in the ranks of the higher judiciary, clarifying that it was false that he had created a separate group within the Supreme Court.
In a statement issued here, he clarified this after a video clip of the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice of the Federal Sharia Court in the Supreme Court on the second day was widely circulated on social media.
