A company spokesperson told JEE News that Meta is developing a text-based social media platform – expected to launch in June – where users can share timely updates about their interests.
According to JEE News, Meta’s new platform will compete with social media giant Twitter.
The platform could enable users to follow accounts they already follow on Facebook’s parent company’s image-sharing platform Instagram, potentially gaining followers from decentralized platforms like Mastodon. can attract
A Meta spokesperson said such a platform is in development, adding that “we are exploring a stand-alone decentralized social network for sharing text updates.”
“We believe there is an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”
Meta Chief Product Officer Chris Cox said coding on the platform was ongoing.
Meta is working on making it available to users, however, no date has been given.

The platform called P92 could prove to be a competitor to Elon Musk’s Twitter, Blue Sky and Mastodon.
While Musk’s controversial move to Twitter upset users on both platforms, building a new social network with a broad base is difficult.
But the Instagram community is huge.
Meta said it has about two billion users, and that dwarfs the 300 million on Twitter — but the figures could not be verified.
If only 25% of Instagram users start using P92, it will surpass its older rival.
Meta said it takes “inspiration” from other products, but consumers think otherwise. Stories on Facebook is based on the Snapchat feature, and Reels on Instagram is similar to TikTok.
Twitter has come under the radar in recent months over its content moderation, and in May, it withdrew from the European Union’s voluntary disinformation code.
Under Musk, Twitter’s moderation has reportedly been reduced. According to critics, this increased the spread of misinformation.
However, Elon Musk noted that there is now “less misinformation rather than more” since he took over the $44 billion giant in October 2022.
