ANKARA: An explosion at a Turkish military explosives factory on Saturday killed five people, a regional governor said.
“According to preliminary information, a chemical reaction caused an explosion in the dynamite manufacturing sector at 8:45 a.m. (0545 GMT). Unfortunately, five workers were killed,” Ankara province governor Wasp Sahan told reporters at the factory.
The bodies of all the victims have been recovered from the wreckage and prosecutors have launched an investigation into the accident. The factory is located in the Elmadag region, about 40 kilometers (25 mi) east of the capital Ankara, and is part of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
