Twitter owner Elon Musk announced that the social media platform will begin paying verified content creators to display ads in their replies. The first payment block is estimated to be around $5 million. However, Musk clarified that only verified users will be eligible for these ads.
Ever since Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October, the company has faced challenges retaining advertisers due to concerns over ad space after significant layoffs. The decision to pay verified creators for ads in Answers comes at a time when NBCUniversal advertising veteran Linda Yacarino is set to become Twitter’s new CEO.
Earlier, Musk revealed that Twitter generates 5 to 6 cents per hour of user engagement. By implementing more relevant and timely advertising, they envisioned the possibility of increasing that figure to 15 cents or more.
