Thousands of Manchester City fans gathered to celebrate their team’s historic treble as they staged an open-top bus parade through the city.

Blue flared and fans threw bananas in the air as several players went shirtless in the heavy rain.

Manager Pep Guardiola was seen puffing on a cigar as fans climbed lampposts.

A lightning storm delayed the parade. City beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final.

It comes after the club won the Premier League and FA Cup this season.

Guardiola said his side’s Champions League success was “written in the stars” after Rodri’s 68th-minute goal.

A soaked Guardiola was later seen pumping his fists at the crowd as the players showed off all three trophies.

Defender Ruben Dias and striker Erling Holland were among several players who went shirtless after being drenched in the rain.

Holland, 22, led the players dancing on a stage after 20:00 BST as midfielder Calvin Phillips serenaded England defender John Stones.

Guardiola praised the fans for coming out in the storms.

He said: “We had to be the best parade with this rain, otherwise it’s not Manchester.

“We don’t want sun, we want rain, so it was perfect. The fans are used to rain.”

Captain Alke Gundogan said it was “unbelievable” that he had “three trophies”.

England midfielder Jack Grealish said: “For the last 24 hours, I’ve had the best day and night.

“To be fair, I don’t think I fell asleep.”

The team left Tin Main Street, Dunsgate, slightly late at 19:00 BST due to stormy weather and headed towards St Mary’s Gate.

The delay did not dampen the spirits of the fans.

Zorro and his family said they were looking forward to seeing Guardiola, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden.

He said: “It goes down in history for us. Pep has just redesigned the world of football. It’s a big statement but it’s true.”

The parade goes through Cross Street and King Street, before ending at the corner of Princes Street and Portland Street.

City became only the second English men’s team to win the treble, following in the footsteps of rivals Manchester United, who achieved the feat under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999.

The team was greeted by fans at Manchester Airport on Sunday after traveling from Istanbul, where the European final was played.
