Karachi: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is likely to be out of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
The fast bowler may be rested during next month’s assignment due to workload management ahead of this year’s World Cup, sources said.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will announce the schedule for the two-match Test series later, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship soon.
Earlier it was also reported that Pakistan is unlikely to play ODI matches during the Test tour of Sri Lanka.
The SLC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had discussed the possibility of the two sides playing a two-match Test series as well as ODIs.
However, according to sources, this idea will probably be abandoned due to unforeseen circumstances.
Shaheen is currently playing for Nottinghamshire in England’s T20 Blast, where he has taken 13 wickets in nine matches.
The fast bowler said that the advantage of the experience of playing league cricket is that he can share the knowledge gained with other players when he returns home.
Shaheen told JEE News last month, “We play with and against players who have performed at the international level as well. So it becomes easier to plan the way I want to play them later. should be bowled for.”
“So it’s good for personal experience but it will also help me improve my performance which will be very beneficial later in World Cup preparations and build a good pace before that,” he added.
It should be noted that Pakistan will participate in the World Cup to be held in India in October-November this year.
