Magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar

A moderate 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and other Pakistani cities on Tuesday, forcing people to leave their homes and offices.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Shakargarh, Chichawatani, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Zafarwal and Murree in Punjab. Earthquake tremors were felt in Abbottabad, Swabi and Swat areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, earthquake tremors were felt in Bagh, Dhirkot and Muzaffarabad areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Sara Batul Haider, a journalist based in Islamabad, said that aftershocks of the earthquake were felt for a short time, as a result of which people came out of their offices.

“It was scary because it was the second time an earthquake hit the capital within a short span,” Haider added.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake started at 1:04 PM with a depth of 10 km.

PMD said that the epicenter of the earthquake was East Kashmir, its longitude was 75.97 E and latitude 33.32 N.

No casualty has been reported yet due to the earthquake.

Earthquake tremors were felt in India’s illegally occupied Kashmir (IIOJK) and other parts of India, including New Delhi.
