ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that Imran Khan has confessed before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that he had no evidence to back the allegations that he levelled against the army and the government on his assassination conspiracy.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Imran Khan was included in the investigation of the case registered at Ramna police station in Islamabad, adding that the PTI chief had arrested a top military official. Charges were leveled against the officers, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. (Sana) of killing him in the past.

The JIT showed a video to the PTI chief and he admitted that it was his own voice. During interrogation, he admitted that all his statements against the Prime Minister, Home Minister and COAS that he wanted to kill them were baseless.

When the PTI chief was shown the FIR against him by the JIT, he was unable to provide any evidence to support the allegations made in the video clips.

He said that when the JIT questioned him further, Khan replied that someone had told him about his involvement in the conspiracy. “Then the PTI chairman was asked who told you? Imran Khan replied, I don’t remember who told me.

The JIT inquired as to why he had mentioned the name of DGISI in his videos and questioned whether he had met a senior military official, whom he referred to as Dirty Harry. The PTI chairman responded by saying that DGISI had held a press conference, adding that he had never met the senior military officer whom he called Dirty Harry.

Rana Sanaullah took a position that Imran did not contest the election from anywhere, that this is not his audio or statement. “He admitted giving the statement based on gossip or hearsay and the JIT asked him to sign the statement. The Home Minister said that if the PTI chief denies his statement, we can produce evidence.

The minister said that Imran was an expert in making accusations without evidence, he misled the young generation with false statements and this brainstorming has been going on since 2014. “The May 9 arrest gave him an excuse to implement his agenda,” Sana said, adding a hint of intrigue. A conspiracy was made to divide the Pakistan Army.

Sana further said that the memorials of martyrs were desecrated and they felt that public reaction would be in their favor but instead people stood by their patriotic forces.

The minister vowed that those involved in the May 9 incident would be brought to justice. “Whether it is anti-national propaganda or misinformation, the law will take its course,” he said. No innocent will be implicated in the cases.

Sana claimed that the PTI chief wanted to gather a million-strong Tiger Force to foment rebellion within the country. He further said that the force was supported with substantial financial resources, including loans and foreign funding, to attack national institutions and create negative narratives on social media against the army chief and other institutions.

Sanaullah ruled out an electoral alliance with any political party, saying the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) “does not need any alliance” to contest the upcoming general elections. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said that the PML-N has not taken any decision on electoral alliance with any party. However, he added that seat adjustment is possible with all political parties.
