The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved the promotion of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Justice Musarrat Hilali to the Supreme Court.
With this decision, she will become the second woman in the history of Pakistan to serve as a judge in the country’s highest court.
The JCP meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandyal unanimously agreed to support Justice Hilali’s promotion.
The nomination was initially proposed by Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and later seconded by Chief Justice Bandyal. Justice Musarrat Hilali, who hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will become the first woman from the region to be appointed as a judge in the Supreme Court.
She will be only the second woman in the country’s history to hold this position.
