At least three people have embraced martyrdom while 28 others have been injured in the latest incident of violence by Israeli forces in Jenin, the Palestinian health ministry said Monday, as the international community expressed concern over the full scale of the conflict.
According to the Israeli military, raids were carried out to detain Palestinians suspected of attacks, and soldiers exchanged fire with the gunmen, injuring several.
The attack began around 4 am local time and reportedly involved a large number of Israeli soldiers.
There were media reports of heavy firing in the morning, with media representatives confirming that fighting was ongoing as of 8:40 am.
Video footage circulating on social media showed an explosion engulfing an armored vehicle as gunshots rang out and an Israeli army helicopter fired missiles at the town.
The raid has been condemned by Palestinian officials, who have called for an “end to Israeli aggression in the West Bank”.
The escalating violence also raised international concerns about an escalation of violence in the region, with the United Nations calling for an immediate de-escalation.
The incident is the latest in a series of violent clashes between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as Israeli forces continue to persecute innocent Palestinians.
According to witnesses, at least one Palestinian citizen was detained during Monday’s raid.
Israeli forces have killed at least 161 Palestinians since the start of the year, injuring hundreds more, including children.
