London: Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that there are no differences in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Nawaz Sharif is his brother, leader and friend in politics and they consult each other whenever they meet.
The former prime minister said he was defending the policies of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, dispelling the perception that he was at odds with his own party. Abbasi met PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif here amid reports that the party is ready to expel Abbasi’s ally and former finance minister Miftah Ismail from the PMLN for publicly criticizing the party, including Ishaq Dar.
Abbasi himself is under fire from PMLN circles for supporting Miftah Ismail. Some quarters are accusing him of being behind Miftah Ismail, who used his media appearances with Abbasi and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar as well as the platform of “Reimagining Pakistan” to criticize the PDM government. used.
After the meeting, Nawaz Sharif said that all kinds of issues were discussed between Abbasi and him in the meeting which lasted for about an hour. Sharif did not comment further. However, Abbasi was asked questions about his differences with the PMLN leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent warning shot that some within the party were working against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
Abbasi’s appointment comes after he resigned from the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) after reportedly falling out with the party leadership over an issue related to the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
