Reason for current crisis is injustice of the court, Rana Sanaullah

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said on Friday that the non-delivery of justice by the courts is one of the factors contributing to the ongoing crisis in Pakistan.

Speaking in the National Assembly (NA) today, the minister expressed his reservations over the functioning of the Supreme Court, stressing that it is the supreme authority in the country’s judicial system.

“A designated chief justice had expressed his no-confidence in the court,” he said, admitting that such a statement could potentially be seen as ‘contempt of court’.

Sanaullah emphasized that according to the constitution, the laws passed by the assembly should be decided by the court.

The minister added that the law provides for the ‘constitution of a committee’ comprising three senior members, which will then constitute a bench responsible for deciding the cases.

“However, the constituted committee did not comply with the constitutional and legal requirements,” he asserted.

The Interior Minister took the position that the court has the authority to interpret the law according to the constitution.

Arbitrary decisions by constituting ‘objectionable benches’ lack the necessary force and compromise the power of judgment, he asserted.

Referring to the recent incident of boat capsize near the coast of Greece, the interior minister assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal business of human trafficking.

The Home Minister told the House that around 350 Pakistani migrants were on board the boat. He said that 12 Pakistanis survived in this tragedy.

“So far, the bodies of 82 people on board the boat have been recovered and their identification is underway with the help of forensic and NADRA data,” he added.

He said that 193 DNA samples have been collected so far to complete the identification process.
