YouTube is internally testing a product for playing online games, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an email sent to employees of parent company Google ( GOOGL.O ).
The company invited its employees to start testing a new YouTube product called ‘Playables’, the report said, adding that the games available for testing included titles such as the arcade game Stack Bounce. .
The report added that the games can be played on YouTube’s website on web browsers or through devices running Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS mobile systems.
Gaming has long been a focus, a YouTube spokesperson said, adding that the company is experimenting with new features and has “nothing to announce right now.”
Hosting online games on YouTube, a popular place for users to stream games and watch live streamed game footage, is growing amid CEO Neil Mohan’s slowdown in advertising spending, JEE News report said. It is part of moving forward in new fields.
