Balochistan Sherani check post attack, 4 security personnel martyred

QUETTA: In the latest attack on security personnel, four law enforcement personnel were martyred when unidentified gunmen attacked a check post in Sherani district of Balochistan on Sunday.

Police officials confirmed that the assailants opened fire at the check post resulting in the martyrdom of four personnel.

He further said that one assailant was killed in the retaliatory firing and a search operation was started in the area after the incident.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudous Bizenjo has condemned the attack.

“Terrorists cannot demoralize the security forces with cowardly acts,” the chief minister said, adding, “Sacrifices of the security forces are a beacon for the nation”.

He said that the security forces are ensuring the security of the country and nation with firm determination and courage.

It is the latest in a series of attacks on law enforcement in the country over the past several months.

At least one policeman was injured in an attack on Smart Police Station Civil Lines Quetta yesterday when an assailant hurled a grenade at the station and fled the scene.

For the past few months, Pakistan has been plagued by terror attacks, with even the country’s major urban centers, such as Karachi and Peshawar, under the radar of militants targeting security forces to disrupt the peace.

The National Security Committee (NSC) – in a meeting in April – also decided to launch an all-out comprehensive operation against militant outfits to root out the menace of terrorism from the country.

The meeting was held in continuation of the NSC meeting following the terrorist attack in Peshawar Police Lines on 2 January 2023, in which more than 80 people, mainly law enforcement personnel, were killed.

Meanwhile, the security forces are carrying out operations against the terrorists with the determination to eliminate terrorism from the country and reinforce the sacrifices of their soldiers.

The Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS), a think tank in Islamabad, said that the number of terrorist attacks in the country increased by 27 percent last year compared to 2021. At least 419 people were killed and 734 injured among 262 terrorists. Last year’s attacks
