ISLAMABAD: In a major development surrounding the May 9 violence, police on Wednesday arrested former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the attack on GHQ, military installations and Metro Station ablaze cases, reported JEE News.
Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) are probing all the cases, sources said. He said that Imran Khan is named in 6 cases listed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He said that three cases were registered against him on May 9 and three on May 10.
Sources revealed that the PTI chairman has been named in two cases in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi respectively, Civil Lines of Faisalabad, RA Bazar and New Town Police Stations of Samanabad, Rawalpindi, Police Station City of Mianwali and Named in a case registered at the police station. Station Cantt Gujranwala.
Sources said that all the cases were registered on the complaints of officials of the respective police stations.
Imran Khan was named in cases registered under anti-terrorism and other provisions at RA Bazar and New Town police stations.
Rawalpindi Police registered cases against former Law Minister Raja Basharat and more than 250 unknown PTI workers in RA Bazar Police Station through FIR No. 208 on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Malik Muhammad Riaz.
A case under FIR No. 2106 was registered against former MPA Raja Rashid Hafiz, Chaudhry Atif Tanveer, Imran Hayat, Rana Saifullah and 42 others on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Tariq Javed in New Town police station. They were booked for attacking sensitive installations, offices and pelting stones on buildings and setting Sixth Road Metro station on fire.
Earlier, Imran Khan was not named in any of the 28 cases registered in Rawalpindi.
Sources further said that the decision to include Khan’s name has been taken after the statements of the accused under investigation and consultation with legal experts.
Cases related to attacks on GHQ and military installations were registered at RA Bazar and New Town police stations.
