At least five people were killed and 15 injured when a three-storey building collapsed due to a gas cylinder explosion in Jhelum on Sunday.
According to initial reports, a three-storied hotel on the Grand Trunk Road in Punjab’s Jhelum collapsed due to a cylinder explosion in the kitchen.
Rescue officials say that 15 injured have been evacuated and shifted to Jhelum District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. He added that two of the injured — whose condition was critical — have been shifted to Rawalpindi.
District Emergency Officer (DEO) Saeed Ahmed said that the first and second floors of the building have been cleared, adding that some people are still trapped in the basement of the hotel.
He said that the search and rescue operation is going on to evacuate all the people buried under the debris of the building.
Jhelum Police said on Twitter that all available resources are being used to save the lives of people buried under the debris of the building.
Sharing the video of the rescue operation, the police said that the debris of the building is being removed with the help of heavy machinery.
