In a shocking revelation, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday claimed that former Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. (Rt. ) Faiz Hameed offered him to become the Chairman of the Senate.

Fazal, who is also the president of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), disclosed this during an informal interaction with senior journalists in Peshawar.

Responding to a question, the PDM chief said all political parties agreed that the 2018 elections were rigged, adding that when the then opposition took oath calling the assembly “fake”. Shouldn’t have picked up.

He added that JUI(F) was of the view that the opposition should have taken to the streets and forced the government to resign instead of coming to the assemblies.

In response to another question, the head of the ruling alliance said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has made it clear that he will leave the government after the completion of his term next month.

After the government’s term is over, we will have to go for elections. There are also difficulties in this regard,” said Fazal.

Talking about the recent political meetings in the UAE, the JUI(F) chief revealed that he was not taken into confidence at the Dubai huddles.

Stalwarts from both the PML-N and the PPP engaged in closed-door, off-camera sessions to discuss various options aimed at controlling and managing public sentiment and any instability. Ensuring the absence of gaps that could potentially undermine civilian governance.
