ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday appeared before two Joint Investigation Agencies (JITs) to record his statement in 12 cases registered in various police stations under PPC, ATA and MPO.

Two JITs headed by SSP Yasir Afridi and SP Rukhsar Mehdi recorded Imran’s statement and asked him more than 25 questions.

In his statement, former Prime Minister Imran Khan said that I have no hatred towards Pakistan and national institutions. I deeply respect the memorials of Pakistan Army, Martyrs, Ghazis and Martyrs. Sources told this reporter that Imran Khan has openly condemned the May 9 incident but said: “The May 9 incident has nothing to do with PTI workers or me.” He claimed that it was a conspiracy against him and his party.

He said that I will never accept the responsibility of this incident as this is a conspiracy by the government and the law enforcement agencies who are busy trapping me and the party in legal trouble.

In response to a question, Imran said that he witnessed persecution from government circles when they tried to kill him on May 25 last year.

While replying to the JIT’s questions, he repeatedly said that I do not agree with the claim that PTI workers were involved in the May 9 incident as I have evidence of conspiracy connected with the incident.

Imran concluded, “They are trying to eliminate me from politics but they cannot succeed in their design.”

The former prime minister recorded his statements in seven cases (4 under ATA in CTD police and three in different police stations). However, they refused to answer questions in the remaining five cases, saying they were not ready to record their statements in the pending cases.

Investigators said that the accused had earlier avoided appearing before the JIT for investigation. Sources say that 12 notices were sent to the former prime minister, in which 7 were issued by CTD and 6 by JIT, but he never responded to the notices.
