LAHORE: 10 members of the same family, including an infant and women, died in a terrible fire in a house in Bhatigate area of Lahore on Wednesday morning when the compressor of a refrigerator exploded.
The dead include a man, his wife, two other women, five children and a seven-month-old baby. Only one member of the family managed to escape the fatal fire by jumping from the building.
Rescue officials confirmed that the fire was caused by an explosion in the refrigerator’s compressor. They said that there is no ventilation in the house to remove the smoke.
Some of the deceased were identified as Adil Hussain, Saira Bano, Farzana, Anbar, Ghazal, Fatima while the work of identifying the rest is going on.
Adil’s father told JEE News that Adil called him around 2:45 pm and asked for help.
“By the time we got here there was nothing left,” he said.
The police say that the bodies of the victims will be handed over to the heirs after completing the identification and legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the rescue team says that the process of cooling the burnt building is going on.
On the other hand, Interim Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has taken notice of the matter and has asked the Commissioner Lahore for a report on it.
He expressed his condolences to the relatives of the deceased while ordering a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
