ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court of the federal capital on Tuesday declared the case against the ‘illegal’ marriage of former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi admissible.
Delivering the reserved judgment a day ago, Civil Judge Qudratullah summoned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and his wife on July 20.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Islamabad Muhammad Azam Khan last week referred the case to a civil judge and dismissed the plea challenging the legality of the marriage as inadmissible, overruling the judgment of another civil court. .
Petitioner Muhammad Hanif claimed that Bushra Bibi was divorced by her ex-husband in November 2017 and married Khan on January 1, 2018, despite the fact that her period had not ended, “which It is against Sharia and Muslim principles.”
The complainant submitted in the court the statements of Mufti Muhammad Saeed – who conducted the marriage between Imran and Bushra, and Aun Chaudhry – a close friend of Imran – who was one of the witnesses to the marriage.

In his statement to the lower court, Saeed said he had arranged Khan’s marriage with Bushra Bibi on January 1, 2018, on the assurance of a woman claiming to be the former first lady’s sister.
“Then the former prime minister contacted me again in February 2018 and requested me to remarry Bushra Bibi as it was against Sharia the first time,” Saeed told the court.
He said that Bushra Bibi’s Idda had not ended when the marriage took place for the first time.
Referring to Khan, he said that Bushra Bibi was divorced in November 2017 and it was a “prediction” that if the PTI chairman married Bushra Bibi, he would become the Prime Minister of Pakistan. .
Mufti Saeed further said that the first marriage was illegal which was done on the basis of “predestination”.

In February 2018, PTI announced that Khan had married Bushra Riaz Vito, now popularly known as Bushra Bibi, a respected devotee. The event was held in Lahore.
Although Khan’s sisters were not present, the bride’s mother and friends attended the intimate ceremony.
Saeed – then a member of PTI’s core committee – married former PTI leaders Aun Chaudhary and Zulfi Bukhari as witnesses.
Before marrying the spiritual leader, Khan was married twice.
He was first married in 1995 to Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of a British billionaire, but it ended in 2004. He has two children – Sulaiman and Qasim – from his first wife. Both of them live with their mother.
His second marriage was to Reham Khan in January 2015 which broke up within a short span of 10 months.
