ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) led by party convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday and expressed concern over the lack of focus on important national issues.
Sources associated with the party say that the meeting is part of the consultation process for the formation of caretaker setup in the country after the dissolution of the assemblies next month.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Aminul Haq, Sindh Governor Kamran Tesuri, Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal were among the members of the delegation while Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Economic Affairs Minister Sardar Ayaz Sadiq were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, the delegation complained that MQMP being the main ally in the ruling coalition was not being consulted on the important issue of dissolution of assemblies and only two main coalition members were planning the matter.
A statement issued by the PM media wing said that the two sides held consultations on the caretaker set-up and the recently concluded census.
The MQM-P delegation thanked the Prime Minister for personally supervising the ongoing development projects and urged him to ensure their timely completion, the official statement said.
The MQMP leaders also appreciated the efforts of the Prime Minister and his economic team for reaching a standby agreement with the IMF.
Sources say that the MQMP delegation demanded to announce the results of the census and said that the next general elections should be held on the basis of the new census and not on the results of the 2017 census.
The leaders also suggested the name of former Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui for the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh. In this regard, the decision will be taken in consultation between the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly.
