The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday granted the request of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and adjourned the hearing of the contempt of court case till August 2.

It should be noted that the Election Watchdog had initiated contempt of court proceedings against PTI Chairman Fawad and Asad Umar for making statements against the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner.

A four-member commission headed by ECP Sindh member Nisar Durrani heard the contempt of court case.

During the hearing, ECP bench member Ikramullah Khan questioned the police authorities about issuing an arrest warrant to the lawyer instead of Mr. Khan.

The authorities were asked about the failure to comply with the arrest warrant.

During the hearing, Fawad Chaudhry and Chairman PTI’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheen appeared before the Election Commission. Shaheen informed the commission that currently five cases are pending in the High Court against Chairman PTI and after his acquittal, he will be available for further proceedings.

Fawad Chaudhry reiterated his stand, which is similar to the stand taken in other cases. Election Commission member asked him to submit his reply, further hearing of the case was adjourned till August 2.

After the hearing was adjourned, the Chairman appeared before the PTI Commission. The hearing room was restricted to unauthorized persons and he was surrounded by the PTI chairman’s lawyers, including Faisal Chaudhry.

Chairman PTI’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheen informed the commission that he had appeared as per the request but he had not received the copy of the previous order. He further explained that he currently lacked a complete record as previous lawyers had handled the matter.

In response, the Election Commission member advised Shaheen to contact the Law Wing for necessary documents in future.

Shoaib Shaheen requested to adjourn the hearing till September, referring to the upcoming one-month holidays. However, the Election Commission member decided to hear the remaining cases together on August 2.

The commission, considering Shaheen’s request, adjourned the hearing of the contempt of court case against Chairman PTI Imran Khan till August 2, when the case will be heard along with other related matters.
