The defense minister added: “The leadership of the coalition parties will take the final decision in this regard. I think the elections should be held in 90 days and that is also suitable for us.
My personal opinion is that elections should be held 90 days before. I understand that the assemblies will be dissolved two days before their tenure. If the field was left blank in the assembly, it would have created a lot of difficulty.
He also made it clear that he neither suggested the name of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for the Caretaker Prime Minister nor expressed his desire at any stage.
He said that Dar never expressed such intentions in any forum.
Talking about his statement of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s untrustworthiness, he said that this is his personal opinion and he is still cautious about him.
Meanwhile, PPP sources have confirmed that 5 names for caretaker prime minister have been shared with the party.
Earlier this week, Dar was rumored to be a possible candidate for the post of caretaker prime minister. However, neither Dar nor any other PML-N leader denied these rumours.
Rather, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the Finance Minister can be appointed to this position.
Later, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif denied Dar’s nomination and PPP also opposed his appointment.
‘PM to consult JUI-F before finalising candidate’
Meanwhile, JUI(F) Senator Kamran Murtaza said on Friday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take the final decision on the selection of caretaker prime minister in a day or two after consulting with JUI(F) chief Fazlur Rehman.
Talking to JEE News, he said that according to the constitution, the shortlisting of the candidates will be done by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz Ahmed, because the same will be valid for the final decision.
Senator Kamran, who has been president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, said that every member party of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has the right to submit its recommendations, but the final decision will be taken by the alliance.
Raja-Shehbaz meeting
Opposition Leader Raja Riaz Ahmed is visiting his hometown Faisalabad and is expected to meet the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
Raja Riaz, who had earlier opposed Fun Man Dar as caretaker prime minister, now supports the idea.
Sources say that if Dar agrees to become the caretaker prime minister, he will vacate the party offices and also the Senate seat.
Consultations are underway on whether a caretaker can retain membership in the upper house of parliament.
