Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Nawaz Sharif will face the law on his return home.

Prime minister said the three-time former prime minister – who has been living in self-imposed exile in London since 2019 – will return home in the next few weeks.

In response to a question, Prime Minister Shehbaz termed the riots that started with the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a corruption case on May 9 as a conspiracy against Pakistan.

Describing the PTI chairman as its “mastermind”, the prime minister said the riots were aimed at toppling the military leadership and starting a civil war in the country. The Prime Minister clarified that he is making disclosures based on information.

Khan, ousted by a no-confidence motion in April last year, was arrested in a corruption case that sparked violent protests, during which his party supporters ransacked public and military property. vandalized

The prime minister said that apart from PTI workers, a group of politicians, some army personnel and their families were involved in the May 9 incidents, which the army termed as a “black day”.

The Prime Minister said that the people involved in the events of May 9 wanted to overthrow the military leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that the plotters want ‘anarchy’ and ‘civil war’ in the country.

Following the violent protests, the government and the army reacted strongly, arresting and detaining several PTI activists and leaders for their alleged involvement.

In response to these attacks, the Pakistani army dismissed three senior officers, including a lieutenant general.

Army Spokesperson Major General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry said that two departmental inquiries were conducted under the leadership of Major Generals and punishments were given as per their recommendations.

As part of internal accountability in the army, strict departmental action has also been taken against 15 more army officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, Chaudhry said.

He added that several relatives of senior army officers, including women, are also facing cases for allegedly facilitating the violence.

The PTI maintains that its members were not involved in the attacks, but the government and the military have rejected the claims, saying they have “irrefutable evidence” of their involvement.

The army also decided to prosecute those who attacked military installations, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House, in military courts.

However, the Supreme Court expects that civilians will not be tried in military courts until it has ruled on petitions challenging the trial.

In response to another question, the Prime Minister said that his government had brought the country out of pre-determined danger and restored the country’s lost dignity during the last 15 months.

Advice for dissolution of NA should be sent before 12th August.
The Prime Minister said that the summary of the dissolution of the National Assembly will be sent to the President before the expiry of the period. He said that the term of the National Assembly will be completed on August 12 at 12 pm.

He said that the Muslim League (N) would try to make seat adjustments with the allied parties, adding that the party would field its candidate in those constituencies where consensus could not be reached.
