The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced by-elections for four vacant seats in the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly.
During the meeting held on Monday regarding the by-elections on the vacant seats, the commission decided that it will hold the by-elections on October 9 on the four vacant seats of the National Assembly and the Punjab Assembly.
Three of the vacant seats that will be up for election are in the Punjab Assembly: PP 209, PP 241, and PP 139.
NA-157 Multan, which fell vacant in July after Zain Qureshi, son of former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, was elected from the Multan provincial constituency, is the only National Assembly seat to hold by-elections. .
The meeting also emphasized on ensuring the presence of security forces during the by-elections.
The commission also reviewed the Islamabad High Court’s decision to suspend the notification of the ECP and the National Assembly Secretariat regarding the resignations and de-notification of 11 PTI MNAs approved by Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf. .
