Lahore: World and Asian Under-21 snooker champion Ahsan Ramzan was allegedly detained by the Punjab Police.

According to a video message shared by Ahsan, the police raided the snooker academy for late night training and took the champion player to the police station.

Ahsan has demanded a full inquiry from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar.

The snooker champion said in his video statement that he along with other players was training for upcoming events at a snooker academy in the township area when the policemen from Greentown police station raided the snooker club for keeping it open till late night.

On Ahsan’s introduction and subsequent refusal to close the club, the police allegedly took the house to the police station, refusing to listen.

They took away his mobile phone and belt and locked him. Ahsan was taken out of custody after a close friend reached the police station.

Ahsan, who recently won the title of World and Asian Champion, cried while narrating the incident.

Photos of the world champion on his belt can be seen outside the prison.

In the video, he said that he told the policemen that he was the world champion. He replied: “You have done it for yourself.”

He added: “I always tried to uplift my country, and I succeeded, but what did I know that I would be disgraced in my own country?”

He further remarked that he felt that snooker was the only sport in this country that was considered an ‘orphan’ and neglected.
