A popular British-Pakistani TikTok influencer and his mother have been found guilty of murder in a disturbing case involving a fatal car accident.
The verdict followed a three-month trial, during which the court heard harrowing details of the events that led to the tragic deaths of two young men.
Mahek Bukhari, 24, who claimed to have nearly 129,000 followers on TikTok, and his mother Ansreen Bukhari, 46, were convicted of a deadly conspiracy that resulted in Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin both serving 21 years in prison.
The incident happened near Leicester in February 2022, when the victim’s car was forced off the road. The court heard that the attack followed a series of events that began after Saqib Hussain threatened to expose his relationship with Ansreen Bukhari.
Prosecutors painted a chilling picture of how Mahek Bukhari used her social media presence to lure Saqib Hussain to meet her under false pretenses. The victims’ car was pursued and eventually driven off the road, resulting in a crash that claimed their lives.
Bukhari’s mother-daughter duo, Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal, were also convicted of murder, while others were convicted of manslaughter. The jury deliberated for 28 hours before reaching a verdict.
The families of the victims expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of their loved ones. He described Saqib Hussain as a “very loving young man” and Hashim Ejazuddin as a caring and kind person. The family described the incident as a senseless act that upended their lives and left a lasting void.
As the court prepares to sentence Mahek Bukhari and his mother on September 1, Judge Timothy Spencer QC emphasized the seriousness of the crime and the punishment to be meted out.
