KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a terrorist from the Karachi Airport – wanted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in connection with terror attacks in the province.

An agency spokesperson told Geo News that the FIA’s immigration cell foiled his attempt to escape abroad.

According to sources, the terrorist named Ehsan-ul-Haq is allegedly related to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The KP Home Department had fixed a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his arrest. According to the spokesperson of FIA Immigration Cell, the terrorist hailing from Swabi district of the province was caught while trying to escape.

FIA added that the terrorist will be handed over to the authorities concerned.

This is an important development for law enforcement agencies. KP province, which borders Afghanistan, has seen several incidents of terrorism in recent months after the outlawed TTP ended its ceasefire with Islamabad, and other terrorist groups have also seen an increase in attacks. What is it.

Earlier this month, a statistical report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) said that July saw a significant increase in attacks, making it the second deadliest month of 2023. In which 124 were killed and 218 injured.

According to the report, there were 54 militant attacks in the country.

The dead include 77 civilians and 37 security forces personnel, while 181 civilians and 36 security forces personnel were injured.

Comparing the data from June, the PICSS report revealed an alarming increase in terrorist activity. Meanwhile, the report also analyzed the regional impact of terrorism with tribal districts of KP province experiencing the highest number of militant attacks in July, with 83 people killed and 181 injured in 18 reported incidents. Injured.

Mainland KP, however, saw a slight decrease in attacks and fatalities, with eight deaths and 11 injuries reported in 15 incidents compared to nine deaths and 17 injuries in 17 incidents in June 2023.
