KARACHI: The man suspected of harassing Pakistani actress Srha Asghar may go free and the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him may be dismissed due to non-cooperation of the complainant, police said on Friday.
Inspector Javed Babar, in-charge of Shaara Faisal Investigation Department, added, however, that his department is preparing to file a case challan against accused Asim.
He further said that when Asim was produced in court the next day, he denied all the allegations.
“When the lady judge summoned the alleged victim, she did not come to the court.
Even the torn clothes during the incident or the eyewitnesses of the incident were not produced by the police and the court.
The police added that no lawyer appeared in the court on behalf of the plaintiff.
On non-cooperation of the plaintiff, the court ordered the release of the accused on bail.
According to police sources, the incident took place on August 1 when the actress had gone to the market for work.
The FIR has been registered in Shaara Faisal police station on the complaint of Umar Murtaza, who is Srha’s husband.
In the statement given to the law enforcement agency, Srha claimed that while she was returning from the market, a man started following her.
She further told the police that the accused followed her to her house and tried to touch her, which also tore her clothes.
According to the statement, Srha rang the doorbell and called her husband from the house. This also led to a fight between her husband and the accused.
According to the woman, the man then entered the house and assaulted her and tore her clothes.
According to Babar, however, after registering the case and handing over the accused to the police, neither the plaintiff nor her husband came to the police station.
