ISLAMABAD: Interim Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar will retain three senior colleagues of his predecessor Shahbaz Sharif while no federal secretary will be replaced immediately.
A day earlier, Kakar – a former senator and leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) – was sworn in as Pakistan’s eighth caretaker prime minister to see the country through general elections that are due in months.
Sources told JEE News on Monday that Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister (PSPM) Dr. Syed Toqeer Hussain Shah, former advisor to the Prime Minister Ahad Cheema and Joint Secretary Mohib Ali have been retained by the caretaker prime minister.
Shah will continue as PSPM until October this year after which he will be transferred to the World Bank where he will serve as its Group Executive Director for Pakistan for four years.
Additionally, Cheema is likely to be assigned the equivalent of a federal minister, sources said, adding that Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abdul Akbar will also be among the officers who will retain the post.
Meanwhile, sources have revealed that Arshad Munir Khan, promoted in Grade 21, will be posted as Principal Information Officer (PIO).
The Prime Minister’s Military Secretary (MS) Brigadier Tajdeed Mumtaz will also continue to perform his duties in his current administrative position.
Sources say that deliberations will begin today for the caretaker federal cabinet, which is likely to be announced later this week.
