QUETTA: A parliamentary committee – comprising members of the outgoing government and the opposition – set up to elect the caretaker chief minister of Balochistan has finally agreed on Sardar Ali Mardan Domki, sources told JEE News on Friday. .

Domki belongs to Balochistan’s Lahri area and is the son of former senator Mir Baksh Domki, who was a legislator from 1975 to 1977.

This development has come to the fore when a name could not be agreed upon in the first round of negotiations between the members of the committee formed by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali a day ago.

The committee was formed after three days of talks between the outgoing Chief Minister of Balochistan Abdul Qudous Bizenjo and the opposition leader in the dissolved Balochistan Assembly, Malik Sikander Khan.

Sources say that Balochistan Governor Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar has signed the summary received from the Speaker’s office.

The assembly was dissolved on 12 August, the day it completed its five-year term. The dissolution of the assembly initiates the process of electing a caretaker setup, which facilitates the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct general elections.

The polls will see a delay as the ECP has announced the delimitation process, which will be completed by mid-December, meaning the polls will be held a few months later.
