Explosion in Swat, 5 people including a member of the peace committee were killed

Five people, including a senior leader of the local peace committee, have been killed in a roadside blast in Swat’s Barbandai area, local police said.

Swat District Police Officer Zahid Nawaz Marwat told Jee News that the convoy of peace committee member Idris Khan was passing through Bara Bandai area when the explosives planted on his way were detonated by remote control.

As a result of the explosion, 5 people in the car died on the spot. It included Idris, two of his companions and two policemen.

Locals said that Idris Khan had political affiliations but had retired from politics in recent years.

Kohat blast
At least eight people were injured in an explosion outside a police station in Kohat.

The head of the police station was also injured in the attack while the van of the police station was also damaged.

Last month, there were reports of militants infiltrating the picturesque Swat valley.

However, the local police and army denied these reports, saying they were only a few people on remote hilltops in the valley and did not have a solid presence in the area.
