LAHORE: Zain Qureshi, son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) former Punjab Assembly member and party vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, was stopped by immigration officials from the flight to Dubai from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The politician was about to travel on Emirates Airlines flight EK623, when his name flashed on the Provisional National Identity List (PNIL) as he passed through the Integrated Border Management (IBM) system.

Qureshi’s name was included in the PNIL on the recommendation of DIG (Legal), Punjab, as he is wanted by the police in connection with a riot case registered at Multan’s Cantt police station on May 9.

After the arrest of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan in the 190 million pound settlement case on May 9, riots broke out almost across the country. Hundreds of PTI activists and senior leaders were put behind bars for their involvement in violence and attacks on military installations.

During the protest, miscreants targeted civil and military installations including Jinnah House and General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The army declared May 9 as “Black Day” and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.

The 37-year-old former legislator was elected member of the provincial assembly when he won Multan’s PP-217 constituency with 46,963 votes in July last year, giving his party a huge lead in the Punjab by-elections. In which his opponent – Muhammad Salman Naeem of Muslim League-N came second with 40,104 votes.
