A slight increase in the price of diesel may be seen for the next fortnight.
Sources say that the average price of motor spirit also decreased from Rs 101.83 to Rs 92.28.
The ex-refinery price of diesel is estimated to be Rs 231.90 per liter after an increase of Rs 3.04.
On September 16 (Friday), the price of Moga is likely to decrease from Rs 235.98 per liter to Rs 226.36 per liter for the next fortnight.
However, diesel price is expected to increase marginally by Rs 3.04 per litre, from Rs 247.26 per liter to Rs 250.30 per litre, for the said period.
Industry sources said that the average price of plots for motor spirits also decreased by Rs 9.55 to Rs 92.28 from Rs 101.83 during September 1 to September 15. However, if compared with the exchange rate registered during August 16-31, the exchange rate is higher. And with customs duty unchanged at Rs 15.39 per litre, the price of a liter of petrol at the refinery fell by Rs 7.84 per liter to Rs 166.76 from Rs 174.61 per litre.
However, the ex-refinery price of a liter of petrol is estimated to have come down to Rs 9.62 per liter from Rs 183.04 per litre.
Regarding diesel, although the average plate price of diesel fell by Rs 6.46 per liter to Rs 133.93 per liter from Rs 140.38 per liter during September 1-15, the dollar cost and freight increased. Similarly, the exchange rate also remained unchanged at Rs 225.63 against Rs 217.81 registered during August 16-31, an increase of Rs 7.87. However, with the increase in customs duty on HSD from Rs 18.74 to Rs 3.37 to Rs 22.11 per litre, the price of a liter of diesel at the refinery will increase from Rs 223 to Rs 224.57. per litre
And after the PSO exchange adjustment, the ex-refinery price of diesel is estimated to increase by Rs 3.04 per liter from Rs 228.87 per liter earlier to Rs 231.90 per litre.
However, for end users, the distribution margin for diesel and petrol is Rs 3.68 per liter and Rs 7 per litre. The petroleum levy on petrol is Rs 37.50 per liter and on diesel Rs 7.50 per litre.
Rs 4.76 per liter is being charged as IFEM (Inland Freight Equalization Margin) on petrol and Rs 0.21 per liter on diesel. Under the IMF programme, the coalition government is committed to increase the petroleum levy on both petrol and diesel by Rs 50 to generate Rs 855 billion in 2022-23.
