Veteran politician and head of the ‘king-making’ party in Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chairman Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday warned politicians to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the armed forces.
His comments came after ousted prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan demanded that the decision on the appointment of the next army chief be postponed until after the general elections.
In a statement on Thursday, he said politicians should not interfere in the affairs of the country’s nearly million-strong army.
In his take on Imran, he added that the army should be dragged into political wrangles, warning that doing so risks harming national interests.
“Television productions are being made where the characters have the names of ‘Army Commandos’,” he suggested.
He said that we should not criticize the armed forces or other state institutions.
He urged all politicians to resolve to stop this practice.
