The federal government on Thursday failed to announce petroleum prices for the next fortnight as per rules. Sources say that the new prices may be announced today (Friday).
The finance division notifies the petrol prices twice a month, first on the 1st of every month and then on the 15th day. However, the petroleum prices could not be announced this month.
Government sources told reporters in Islamabad that both Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Miftah Ismail are in Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and have the final decision on prices.
Sources say that the new prices of petroleum products may be announced on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authorities (OGRA) denied claims that petrol prices may increase by Rs 9 per liter and diesel by Rs 3 per litre.
Ogra advised against speculation.
