Atletico Madrid have condemned the “unacceptable” chants by a “minority” of fans towards Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior outside their stadium ahead of Sunday’s La Liga derby.

Some fans chanted racist chants as they entered the Wanda Metropolitano before Real’s 2-1 win.

Atletico say they will cooperate with the authorities’ investigation.

“These chants incite a lot of hatred and anger,” Atlético Madrid said in a statement.

“We will not allow any individual to hide behind our colors to make insults of a racist or xenophobic nature.”

On Monday, La Liga condemned the “hateful speech” and said it would work with authorities to “identify and bring to justice” the perpetrators.

Sunday’s abuse followed comments by some pundits in Spain who recently criticized Venezius’ goal celebration, in which he danced with the corner flag.

The 22-year-old Brazil forward responded on Friday, saying the “joy of a black Brazilian in Europe” was behind the recent criticism.

Atletico Madrid have asked the authorities to identify the fans who took part in the chanting so they can proceed with their “immediate expulsion” from the club.

The statement added: “Our club has always been known to be an open and inclusive place for fans of different nationalities, cultures, races and social classes, and some of the thousands and thousands of Atleti fans who support their team. Can’t tarnish the image of the fans. With passion and respect for their opponents.

“We have zero tolerance for racism, our commitment to the fight against this social scourge is complete, and we will not stop until we end it.

“The pain felt by the red and white family for this event is immense. We cannot allow anyone to associate our fans with this behavior and because of a minority who doesn’t represent us, question our values.”

“In Spain, you have to respect your rivals and stop playing monkeys,” agent Pedro Bravo said of Venezia on Spanish television, leading to accusations of racism. He has since apologized.

Brazil international Vinicius, who has scored five goals in eight games for the European champions so far this season, listed other stars who danced at their celebrations in a statement on Friday.

Vinicius was supported on social media by several Brazilian football stars, including Pele and Neymar, while Real Madrid also released a statement on Friday condemning the pundit’s comments.
