US President Joe Biden appealed for help to Pakistan in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, where floods have caused great destruction.
“Pakistan is still under water, it needs help,” the president told the 193-member assembly in his high-level debate, as he tackled the negative effects of climate change.
When Biden spoke, the famous hall of the General Assembly was packed with world leaders including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

More than 1,500 people have been killed and 30 million displaced by the floods as the government of Pakistan, with the support of the United Nations and partners, races against time to help the affected people.
In his address, Biden announced more than $2.9 billion in new aid to combat global food insecurity, on top of $6.9 billion in US government aid to support global food security already planned this year. contains
He said the compounding effects of the pandemic, the growing climate crisis, rising energy and fertilizer prices, and protracted conflicts — including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — had disrupted global supply chains and dramatically increased global food prices. added
He added that years of drought in the Horn of Africa had created a serious humanitarian emergency, with parts of Somalia threatened with famine for the second time in just over a decade.
He also focused on the war in Ukraine.
