On Sunday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad sent former journalist Ayaz Amir to jail on one-day physical remand in the daughter-in-law’s murder case.
Police detained Ayaz Amir on Saturday night after his daughter-in-law Sara Inam was killed by his son Shahnawaz Amir in Chak Shehzad’s farmhouse.
At the start of today’s hearing, the police produced the journalist before duty judge Zahid Termeez.
Ayaz Ameer told the court that he was in Chakwal when the victim was killed.
The journalist told the court that he informed the police about the incident and provided them with the address of the farmhouse where the incident took place.
His lawyer also argued that there is no evidence against his client in the murder case, the police also confirmed that Ayaz Amir had informed him of the murder.
The lawyer also noted that the journalist was not even named in the First Information Report (FIR) by the police.
Calling it a high-profile case, the police sought five-day physical remand of the accused’s father to carry out the investigation.
However, the court adjourned the hearing by agreeing to physical remand for only one day.
