ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Miftah Ismail has confirmed his ‘verbal resignation’ as finance minister, JEE News reported on Sunday.

Miftah Ismail confirmed in a Twitter message that he verbally resigned from the post of Finance Minister in a meeting with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif today.

He announced his formal resignation after reaching Pakistan. Ismail added, “It is an honor to serve as Finance Minister for two terms.”

Marriyum Aurangzeb said, “I have seen how hard you have worked day and night to save Pakistan from default and to avert the economic disaster created by Imran Khan. You deserve appreciation from the entire nation and especially of PMLN.”

It was learned yesterday that Miftah Ismail has resigned from his ministry and handed over his resignation to Nawaz Sharif in London.

During the meeting, Miftah Ismail said, “You have trusted me with regard to their work and I tried to serve the nation with all my ability.”

Nawaz Sharif praised his efforts for taking charge at the most difficult time as the meeting agreed that the present government had to bear the brunt of the economic crisis created by the previous ruler.

According to sources, Nawaz Sharif also nominated Ishaq Dar as the next finance minister of the coalition government in the meeting.

He said that Miftah Ismail will formally announce his resignation as soon as he reaches Pakistan. He has been informed about Ishaq Dar becoming the next finance minister of the country.
