President Arif Alvi on Monday expressed concern over the leak of the audio recording of a secret conversation at the Prime Minister’s House, terming the release of personal information as an unethical act that should be discouraged.
Speaking to reporters at Governor House Karachi on Monday, he said that privacy is a trust that should not be broken. It was unethical to leak private conversations or comments and spread fake news. He said that such things can spread fear and panic in the society.
His comments came on a day when the government launched an investigation into the audio leaks while the opposition leader, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, warned that more leaks could surface in the coming days.
Dr Alvi added that social media can be used to spread knowledge and wisdom. Instead it was being used to spread fake news.
He said that political rivals should adopt polite behavior with each other on social media platforms. This proposal is far from what most political parties seem to be following on social media platforms.
He further said that he will try to bring change in the current political environment in his personal capacity.
The country is facing many crises from devastating floods to economic crisis. In such a case, all the stakeholders must unite for a common goal. “
The use of foreign aid for flood victims is a source of controversy, with the president proposing a transparent and robust system for distributing aid.
He said that I hope that the government’s efforts to ease international debt payments will bear fruit so that we can provide maximum aid to the flood victims.
President Alvi also asked the welfare organizations, civil society and international donors to help the flood victims with open heart.
