Sara Inam, 37, was a Pakistani immigrant who married Shahnawaz, son of senior journalist Ayaz Amir, only to be allegedly murdered by her husband, just three months after their marriage.

Shahnawaz allegedly killed Sara at home – a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad area – after an argument over a “family issue”. After being taken into custody by the police as the main suspect in the murder – he confessed to killing Sarah, saying he “thought” his spouse had something to do with it.
Sarah is survived by her father, mother and two elder brothers.
Brief look at Sarah’s career
Sarah was a Canadian citizen and a successful economist who worked with Deloitte and USAID at various points in her career.
She had a master’s degree from the University of Waterloo and was currently employed in the government sector in the United Arab Emirates, according to friends and family.
One of her friends and a colleague said Sarah was a “voracious reader and thinker” and passionate about her profession, history and religion.
‘Kindest, smartest, gentlest’
Sarah’s friend, Stephen Nash, wrote a heartfelt note the day after her death where he said Sarah was “a bright light in this world, just the kindest, smartest and gentlest soul”.
“She [Sarah] had such a sweet innocence and naivety and it has now been taken away by the actions of a cruel man. It is unfathomable,” she wrote in a widely circulated Facebook post.
According to Nash, Sarah had friends from all over the world, from Pakistan to Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
