First meeting of IMF, Ishaq Dar briefed lender on economic situation.

Dar assured that the government would take measures to reduce the burden on the economic situation.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission chief Nathan Porter on Thursday expressed the global lender’s support for Pakistan in its hour of need and mentioned the managing director’s meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in this context.

During a meeting with newly appointed finance minister Ishaq Dar, Porter congratulated the finance minister on taking charge and briefed him on the IMF’s assessment of the challenges facing the economy.

The IMF official also discussed the assistance of international lenders to the country to mitigate the effects of the floods.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister apprised the body of the economic situation arising in the country due to the devastating floods which affected the infrastructure, crops as well as the livelihood of the people.

The minister said that the government will take measures to reduce the burden on the economy while protecting the vulnerable sections of the population.

The minister added that the government’s aim is to address the structural issues so that Pakistan can eliminate its fiscal deficit and move towards sustainable development.
