Government will not detain Imran Khan, Rana Sanaullah

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said that the coalition government will not detain Imran Khan as the arrest warrant issued by the local court in Islamabad is bailable.

The minister told Geo News in the current affairs program “Niya Pakistan” on Saturday that arrest warrants were to be issued for Imran as an accused has to appear before a magistrate, but Imran did not. He explained that if the accused does not appear in court, the judge issues an arrest warrant.

He rejected Imran Khan’s arrest and added that it was a routine warrant issued under bailable provisions.

Discussing the case filed against Imran Khan for threatening a judge, the interior minister said that the Islamabad High Court only rejected anti-terrorism provisions. He asserted that the court has not disposed of the case.

Rana Sanaullah criticized the PTI chief and said that he has compromised on the freedom of the country. He continued, “His [Imran’s] crime is unforgivable. Parliament will debate it, and lawmakers will ratify any decision taken unanimously on the floor of the House.”

The minister said that the government has taken serious notice of the audio leaks and has constituted a committee to investigate the matter.

When Rana Sana was asked about the diplomatic cipher, he replied that the record of Prime Minister House is not checked daily. The record was checked only when the cipher was required.

Rana Sana said that the copy of the cipher was received in PM House but is not there now. He further said that the former prime minister seems to have put the copy in his pocket.

The interior minister said it was a prank by Imran Khan, who recorded the minutes and later sent them to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
