Nawaz Sharif said that Imran Khan did everything to take revenge on him but he also destroyed Pakistan’s economy and sovereignty.
“If you wanted to take revenge from me, that’s fine, but why did you need to take revenge from Pakistan?” he asked.
Nawaz advised that he was also offered money but he refused.
“At least $5 billion was being served on a plate, but we didn’t say absolutely,” he said, with the context not immediately clear.
Remembering his mother, Nawaz shared that his mother loved him the most and younger brother Shehbaz often complained about her.
He added that she used to visit me in Rawalpindi Jail and I was sitting next to her when she died.
He also expressed his happiness and gratitude on the arrival of his daughter Maryam Nawaz in London.
Nawaz appreciated how she remained brave and steadfast in the toughest of times.
Recalling an incident of Imran’s revenge, Nawaz claimed that when his wife was on her deathbed and in jail, he was not allowed to talk to her.
“I begged the warden to let me talk to my wife as he does not have much time,” Nawaz said, adding that to prove that one is sick they must die first.
“Three hours later, they came and told me that my wife had died,” Nawaz recalled, adding that he forbade the jail authorities from informing Maryam, who was lodged in the same jail.
Instead, Nawaz said he told the authorities that he would personally inform his daughter about her mother’s death.
“She was shocked when I told her. After a while she began to cry continuously, feeling the sting of irreparable loss.
Nawaz criticized politics and unnecessary criticism while his wife Kulsoom Nawaz was undergoing treatment in the hospital.
“People were trivializing the situation,” he said, lamenting how many people said Kulsoom’s illness was a drama.
Despite the fact that his wife was unwell, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison and Maryam Nawaz to 7 years in prison.
“And then, they wouldn’t even let us meet him.”
“After the verdict, I urged Maryam that we should go to Pakistan now. Maryam told me that her mother’s condition was deteriorating. But in response, I told her that there were some national obligations which But we must meet,” he said.
The supremo of Muslim League (N) explained that everyone saw what happened on his arrival in Pakistan.
When he was sent to prison, Mary visited him often.
During one such visit, he told her that NAB officials were waiting outside Kot Lakhpat Jail to arrest him.
After that they arrested Maryam in front of me and her little daughter. The purpose of this arrest was only to hurt me. There was no other reason. They must have planned to arrest Maryam in front of her father,” said Nawaz.
He said that Maryam Nawaz proved that the case was false and the punishment was also wrong, why did she have to go to jail in false cases? As a Pakistani I have the right to ask this question.
Later in the interview, he took a jibe at Imran, saying that during the PTI chief’s tenure, actions were taken which “never happened before”.
Asked about the recent audio leaks, Nawaz Sharif said that the real face of the tyrant is slowly being exposed.
He added that more facts are expected to emerge in the coming days.
What they did is being exposed to the nation because it is all about karma.
“He has done a U-turn on everything. He claimed that he would rather commit suicide than make a deal with the IMF. But the nation is still waiting for him to take his own life as he claims. Take it,” he said.
