The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected all requests from the polling body to postpone the by-elections and local body elections in Karachi Division.
The Home Ministry had requested the ECP to postpone the by-elections in the country citing the law and order situation in the country.
While the Sindh government had requested the polling regulatory body to postpone the local body elections in Karachi division. The provincial government maintained that it could not commit to providing security for the elections as the force was engaged in food relief activities.
On Tuesday, the ECP announced that all the by-elections except the NA-45 Karam by-election will be held on October 16 as scheduled.
The polling body says that the Karam by-election has been postponed due to the law and order situation in the area.
The ECP also rejected the Sindh government’s request to postpone the local body elections in Karachi. It will be held on 23 October.
