Suspect Behind Attack on Korangi Fire Station Arrested: Rangers

KARACHI: A suspect behind an armed attack on a fire station in Korangi area of ​​Karachi and the death of two employees has been arrested in a joint operation by police and Sindh Rangers, a spokesperson of the paramilitary force said on Wednesday. .

The spokesman said that Sheikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi, who was involved in terrorist activities, was arrested during a joint operation in Manzoor Colony area of ​​the city. He said that arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the accused.

The spokesperson said that the accused has been sent to jail several times, adding that raids are being conducted to arrest his accomplices.

The Rangers official said that the accused has been handed over to the police for further legal action.

Two persons were killed in firing by armed men at Korangi Fire Station
Earlier this month, two officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s fire department were killed and one was injured as a result of firing by unknown persons in Korangi area of ​​the city.

Police say that unknown suspects opened fire at the fire brigade office located near Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi, in the limits of Awami Colony police station, as a result of which two people were killed on the spot and one was injured.

The deceased fire brigade personnel have been identified as 55-year-old Amir and 40-year-old Mehboob, while the injured personnel have been identified as 30-year-old Irshad.

Police said the suspects entered the fire brigade office after climbing the walls and took the security guard hostage at gunpoint. They took him inside the office and asked about other employees, after which one of the accused brought the victims along and shot them dead.

Another officer Zeeshan was also present in the office at the time of the incident. He informed the police that he witnessed the incident.

“Two armed men entered the fire department and asked me to stand in a control room with a telephone operator and also asked about other employees.”

He said the other employees were sleeping and one of the suspects brought the two victims into the control room and asked them to recite the word before putting a pistol to one of their foreheads and shooting him. The witness said that the accused fired the pistol but the bullet misfired due to which he fired again killing Mehboob on the spot. After which Aamir and Irshad resisted, during which Zeeshan managed to escape from the room.

Later, the injured employee also managed to reach a fuel station adjacent to the office and reported the incident to his employees who called the police through helpline 15.
