Antoine Griezmann scored his 100th goal for Atletico Madrid in La Liga victory at Athletic Bilbao.

The France striker slipped Alvaro Morata’s cut-back into the bottom corner two minutes after the break for his first league goal since re-signing from Barcelona on a permanent basis.

Athletic’s Raul Garcia had a late header saved and a shot blocked on the line during a frantic finish.

But Atletico held on strongly to move above the hosts into third place.

Diego Simeone’s visitors were comfortably cruising to three points before being sent off 20 minutes from time after a heavy fall on goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Athletic threw everything at their substitute, Ivo Grubic, who was forced into a full-stretch dive to keep out Garcia’s header a minute from time.

The hosts were then penalized for a potential Renaldo Mandava handball which was disallowed after a VAR check at the start of 10 minutes of stoppage time.

A struggling Atletico had six players booked in total, including their three substitutes, but Griezmann’s historic goal sealed their sixth league win of the season.
