Government has Denied Increasing Electricity Rates for Consumers.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Saturday issued a clarification saying that it has not increased electricity rates for consumers but only allowed quarterly adjustments.

The quarterly adjustment of Rs 3,644 per unit is for the quarter of 2021-2022 (April-June) which will not increase the bills as the Government’s Notified Schedule of Tariff (SoT) is maintained during the first quarter of 2022-23. will be.

However, state-run power distribution companies will charge Rs 0.1918 per unit extra in their power billing for October following the regulator’s directives for fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for the month of August. This adjustment is for one month only.

Apart from this, electricity rates have been reduced by Rs 4.15 per unit under the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for October as compared to September.

The Ministry of Energy said that a day ago there was news that the government had increased electricity rates, which was false. However, quarterly adjustments and notified to FCA.

Secretary Power Division said that keeping in view the rising electricity prices in the country, the government has decided not to increase the electricity rates and continue with the quarterly adjustment which is already included in the September electricity bills.

In a statement, he said that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had announced its decision on October 14 regarding the fourth quarter adjustment for the year 2021-2022, to collect this amount from electricity consumers in the next four months. will go From October 2022 to January 2023.

The ministry has requested Nepra to “implement the quarterly adjustment of Q4 FY2022 in the four months from October to January 2023, to the existing GoP’s notified schedule of tariffs (SoT) for Q-4 FY20, Q Retained for -1,2 and 3 FY21 and Q-2 FY22 ending in September 2022.
